Dot Peen Marking (Dot Peening / Dot Pin marking) / Needle Embossing or micro percussion (micro dot marking) is a marking technique for Permanent Direct Part Marking within the field of material deformation (deforming), that corresponds to graining.
Dot Peen Marking or Microdot Marking Systems are great for tamper-proof, durable, flexible and high quality markings.
With Dot Pin marking (Needle embossing) (also called point of percussion technology), materials are marked using a carbide tipped tool (needle) that oscillates through compressed air application and moves in an X and Y direction during its upward and downward movements.
This results in a dense sequence of individual dots (writing) being punched into the material. Depending upon the needle frequency, a complete line can result.
Characters, digits, logos and 2D codes (DataMatrix) can be imprinted in the field as desired.

What does value means for OSTLING MARKING SYSTEMS?
In this case, quality is not sacrificed for savings. The Dot Peen Markers (Needle Embossers) of the Magic Pin series are also manufactured in Germany and made for industrial use. Applications such as the DataMatrix codes and serial numbers can be easily created and realised.
The lower price is due to the limited expandability. This means that the system functions are suitable for all important applications while retaining the high quality level. However, further expansion options such as rotation axis, automatic vertical axis, type plate magazine, etc. are not available. The embossers are controlled via the UMC eco or the UMC box.
All in all an affordable start into needle embossing. Durability and excellent marking quality are still the same.

Materials which are marked by using a carbide tipped tool (needle) that oscillates through compressed air application and moves in an X and Y direction during its upward and downward movements is called Dot Peening. Our Needle systems have the usual high Ostling Quality Made in Germany.
This results in a dense sequence of individual dots (writing) being punched into the material. The result is a precise, clean marking result consisting of a fine continuous line – at a low noise operation.
In addition to the silent operation and the finer typeface needle Dot Peen Systems can be converted without any problems in Needle Scribers if needed. Only the needle system (accessory) must be replaced. The right needle depends on the different materials and the marking system. Our needle systems are all of highest quality and very durable.

In the middle of the 18th century, steel experts of Walloon origin migrated from Belgium to northern Sweden. They were called Pierro. In the striving steel district of Sandviken they grew prosperous, purchased a manorial estate and changed their name: OSTLING.
Their interest in technology remained unchanged. They developed machines to rationally harvest turf, reshape steel or produce nails, for example.
This innovative thinking and the motivation of his ancestors shaped the company founder, Rolf Östling. He was born in the port city of Gävle in Sweden. Following his school leaving examinations and his industrial engineering studies, he had the idea of developing a marking system. In a tiny, dark basement, he began in 1968 to build a machine that was purchased by the Sandvik Company, the world’s largest carbide producer.

In 1978, he moved to Germany (Essen) and founded the company OSTLING Vertriebs GmbH. In 1979, the company headquarters was relocated to Solingen, where the cutlery industry has an international reputation and market potential is conglomerated.
Due to the continuing expansion, primarily in export, a move was made again within Solingen in 1988, in order to satisfy the wish for development and space. The company was renamed to OSTLING Markiersysteme GmbH. The product portfolio in the field of electrolytics encompasses the manual marking stations and extends to semi and fully automatic marking systems. In 1989, the company developed its own pad printing machine and included it in the product portfolio.
The needle embossing system followed in 1993, the inkjet and laser marking system in 1995, and the identification system in 1997. Parallel to this, the foreign sales locations in Switzerland, Singapore, France and the USA were established. At the German headquarters in Solingen, a modern development and production centre was set up to develop hardware and software, among other things.
